The Feast of Maximum Occupancy, sometimes known as Thanksgiving, has commenced and the time for Song Showdown has begun! Good luck to everyone who entered the Top 16 challenge (although, we will take late entries) and good luck to everyone doing the Little Drummer Boy challenge.
Tonight we'll be doing three songs battles, and will likely continue that for a bit to make some room in the schedule. The song list is long, and Song Showdown has planned a vacation right in the middle of the battles this year. We'll keep you posted.
The first battle of this season is all about Time! We have The Darkness with Christmas Time (Don't let the bells end) going up against Mel Torme's version of Christmastime is Here. The video for the Darkness brings a ton to the table, and while the Torme version might not be the classic, I think the Darkness will have a hard time moving forward.
The second battle sees another unusual rock entry of I Want an Alien for Christmas - Fountains of Wayne going up against the more traditional Light One Candle - Peter, Paul and Mary. Can Fountains of Wayne pull out a win here? Maybe we should ask Stacy's mom.
Finally for tonight, the Tzlil V'Zemer Boys Choir brings Hanukkah, O Hanukkah up against another vocal group Pentatonix and their take on You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch. This one could go either way, but I have a feeling Pentatonix has an edge here. The votes are up to you though! So select whatever you think is best and we'll slowly make our way to the best song of the season.
To vote, you'll need to select the check-mark in each battle of your chosen song and click VOTE at the bottom of EACH poll.
Fun Fact: The spaceship seen in the video for Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End) is the same seen in the Darkness videos for "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" and "Growing on Me", and on the cover of their debut studio album Permission to Land. Maybe the Alien from the Fountains of Wayne song is flying it.
For those of you who really love the Song Showdown, come check out our Spotify List of (almost) every single song that has been on the showdown. Over 15 hours of holiday music! And for more Song Showdown style shenanigans, check out www.neversaydice.co
